NZISM Appoints New Advisory Board Members

Four further members have been appointed to the NZISM Advisory Board. The Advisory Board will provide a valuable sounding board for the overall management of the Institute, offering expertise on matters of governance, strategy, finance, and marketing.  It is a key part of the growth and development of NZISM to enable members to better support New Zealand businesses and thereby meet the challenges and opportunities of the changing health and safety environment.   Board members have been selected following an open and heavily contested process and collectively provide decades of health and safety knowledge, governance and management expertise.  The new members join Russell Kilvington, the inaugural Chair, to form an initial five member Board.  Further appointments may follow in due course. In alphabetical order, the new members are: Mike Cosman is a leading health and safety consultant with extensive experience in New Zealand and the UK, including 25 years with its Health and Safety Executive (HSE).  Most recently, he was a member of both the government’s Independent Taskforce on Workplace Health and Safety and the Independent Forestry Safety Review.  Prior to setting up Cosman Parkes Ltd, in 2014 he was the Managing Director of risk and safety management solutions provider, Impac Services Ltd. He also sits on two public sector health and safety risk governance committees. Mike is a Certified Member of NZISM as well as a Chartered Member of IOSH and a Member of the Institute of Directors. Kaye McAulay has had an extensive range of senior management, consulting and governance experience. Her management experience includes, CEO of Standards NZ, Professor/Director at the GSBGM, VUW, and Partner at KPMG Peat Marwick. She has consulted at Lloyds Bank, National Westminster Bank and the London Stock Exchange. Her pertinent governance roles, include, The ISO Council in Geneva, JASANZ and Eastern Central and Community Trust. Kaye has a PH.D and BSc Hons (1st class) Grant Nicholson is a Partner in the leading New Zealand law firm, Kensington Swan.  A Barrister and Solicitor, he has developed a special expertise in workplace health and safety, advising a broad cross-section of leading NZ public and private sector entities. Governance experience extends to advising SME’s, large companies and various Crown entities. Samantha Sharif has an extensive background in safety critical industries, most notably aviation, at the leadership and governance level.  As Director of Global Programmes (and subsequently CEO) at CANSO, the global body for air traffic management she has helped to lead the creation of global safety and other performance metrics for ANSPs worldwide. Samantha is currently the Chief Executive of Aviation New Zealand, the association that represents the $11billion commercial aviation industry in New Zealand.  She also has extensive governance experience, having recently been an Independent Director of the Flight Safety Foundation Australasia Advisory Board, Wellington Regional Strategy Committee, Positively Wellington Venues, two large mutual funds, and is currently a Board Member of ASPEQ Ltd.
