This position is responsible for providing strategic direction for the Group Health and Safety Management; development of best practice HS based on Risk Methodology

This is an excellent opportunity to work within a high-risk industry, providing strategic leadership and ensuring the organisation meets its core obligations to provide a safe and healthy workplace, working within modern day safety management leading to positive cultural and behavioural change.

With a supportive and accessible CEO and Executive Team, this role can be based in either Auckland or Tauranga.

Reporting to Legal Counsel to ensure integration within the overall risk profile, the purpose of this role is to lead the health and safety governance and strategy across the Group.

This is an opportunity to really make your mark and lead a team to truly enhance the operational health and safety systems, processes and behaviours from a strategic level, providing; governance, strategy, reporting and relationship management, sharing best practice with an innovative, engaging and influential approach.

The position is a key advisor to the Executive and provides practical and focused advice to the General Managers as well as the Operational Managers. The role is the key interface between the Executive team and Operations.

Duties include:

* Develop and ensure the strategic and operational plans are executed in line with requirements

* Manage the Group Health and Safety systems and processes from a risk perspective

* Mentor / Coach your team to ensure a high level of performance and identify/implement development opportunities for the Safety team

* Lead the development, review and implementation of Group Policies and Procedures

* Work proactively with the Unions, TPA’s and other key stakeholders to promote positive outcomes

* Build strong relationships throughout the business, working closely at GM/Executive level

Skills and experience include:

* High risk manufacturing background is essential

* Tertiary qualifications in Health and Safety and CMIOSH accredited

* Significant senior management experience in managing health and safety at a group level

* Sound knowledge of health and safety and other relevant legislation

* Demonstrated ability in providing health and safety advice and guidance at all levels, particularly executive and general management level

* Significant experience in a large, complex and geographically dispersed organisation

* Membership to professional body i.e. NZISM

* Strong analytical skillset, focussing on key information, without getting bogged down in unnecessary detail – determining of accurate root cause/s

* Customer orientated, anticipate needs and clearly track performance

* Outcome focussed – results orientated – goes the extra mile and sets high standards for self and others

* Engaging and inspirational, motivating approach

* Excellent communication – prepare and deliver clear, concise, accurate, effective and persuasive written and verbal presentations

* Ability to gain the confidence and trust of others, through principled leadership and sound business ethics – authentic in approach
