About the role

Reporting to the Senior Safety and Wellbeing Partner, the role of Safety and Wellbeing Advisor is an operational one, providing a visible face for safety and supporting managers on incident investigation, hazard management and best practice.

All working towards the common goal of providing a highly proactive safety and wellbeing environment, with engaged employees and contractors, you will play your part in the implementation of strategy, maintaining a positive culture and building on the positive relationships with staff, customers, contractors and strategic partners.

Relationships are critical to the role’s success, and you will be comfortable working with internal and external parties at all levels including WorkAon, ACC, Unions, Port Associations, Customs, MPI, plus WorkSafe and Maritime NZ as Regulators.

A sample of duties include:

• Assisting the Senior SWBP in implementing the Safety Strategy and Annual Safety Plans

• Guide managers and supervisors to take responsibility for the management of safety

• Assist with staff inductions

• Support significant incident investigations – ensure timely and accurate close out and implementation of corrective actions

Skills and experience

Experience in dynamic and complex high-risk environments is a must and you must be able to build the relationships required to make this role a success.

You will have a strong ability to mentor and guide change, through great communication and engagement as well as uplifting health, safety and wellbeing capability and understanding at all levels, throughout the organisation.

Practical working knowledge of the HSWA, Contractor Management and the Return-to-Work process is required. A high level of competence in understanding JSA / SWMS / PTW and confident IT ability are also required. A Level 6 qualification is preferred.
