Due to an internal promotion we are looking for a Property Safety Specialist to join the Property Team here at Tauranga City Council. The Property Safety Specialist is responsible for overseeing all safety related building compliance activities for the Property related functions of Tauranga City Council.

This role works across the Holiday Park, Facilities and the Property Management teams and helps to deliver operational management of the council owned property portfolio and provides a dedicated focus to compliance and health and safety on all matter's property.

We are looking for a health and safety professional with good legislative knowledge and requirements relating to property and facilities management who can demonstrate excellent problem-solving ability, understands quality and who will champion best practice at every level.

This role brings a lot of variety and projects that involve a combination of working within and out of the office during a working week while liaising with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders. You will work on and help to identify potential projects for the team while developing knowledge and expertise to ensure safety and compliance are implemented to the highest standard.

The position involves;

- Ensuring that Contractors adhere to all health and safety standards

- Conducting Contractor and supplier audits

- Implementing & refining processes and working on a variety of projects

- Carrying out safety inspections

- Overseeing control of building access - both systems and people

- Providing advice on compliance and ways in which inspections services can be improved

- Internal and external stakeholder management

- Being the primary point of contact on all matters safety for contractors, tenants, members of the public and team members - both internal and external

The ideal person for this position will have;

- 2 plus years health and safety related experience involved in one or more aspects of safety compliance relating to properties and/or facilities (BWOF, fire, codes etc) health and safety contractor management, building management services. Good working knowledge of one or more areas of the legislative requirements relating to property or facilities management

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

- Strong relationship building skills

- An ability to manage multiple work streams, prioritise tasks and initiatives from inception through to completion

- A forward thinking and fresh approach

- Current full driver's license
