Our client seeks an innovative and experienced HSE leader to drive performance and strategic direction in this high risk, safety critical environment.

The role

In this newly created role, you will drive strategic direction and HSE performance. Reporting directly to the CEO, the position sits within the Senior Management Team and will assist in the delivery of wider business initiatives. A key initial goal will be to maintain FSC and PEFC certification. The is an excellent senior opportunity for an engaging safety leader who has a genuine passion to impact performance in one of New Zealand’s most high-risk industries

This role will be instrumental in actively promoting/maintaining HSE systems, initiatives and innovations. You will provide support and safety leadership to team members, operational managers and stakeholders.

Suitable candidates will have a proven safety management background within either forestry or a resource led industry such as mining or agriculture. Crucially, you will be a dynamic leader, able to operate at a strategic level, influencing and engaging internal/external stakeholders.

Duties

• Develop, drive and execute safety and environmental strategy

• Collaborate and engage with internal/external stakeholders

• Drive continuous improvement and innovation

• Maintain PEFC /FSC certification

• Provide subject matter expertise on all health and safety matters

• Develop staff HSE knowledge and skillset

• Ensure the successful completion of the audit program, benchmarking performance

• Maintain monthly HSE reporting

• Collaborate with the leadership team to deliver broader business outcomes/initiatives

• Foster a positive safety culture

Skills and experience

• Outcome focused with significant drive and passion for HSE

• Previous HSE Management experience within either forestry or a resource led industry (mining/agriculture etc)

• Proven management experience, able to drive and deliver initiatives

• High level engagement and influencing skills, able to build relationships

• A tertiary level qualification within Safety and Environmental management is preferred

• Knowledge of PEFC and FSC certification would be advantageous

• In depth knowledge of HSWA 2015

• Full, clean NZ driving license
