Maramarua is an opencast mine located in the Waikato region of New Zealand producing a low-ash, low sulphur thermal coal for the domestic market.

Maramarua has a long history of coal mining with an opencast mine first being developed at the site in 1948. It has been mined in modest quantities since that time. The coal produced at Maramarua has a low sulphur and ash content, making it ideal for steel production. The biggest customers for Maramarua’s coal are local dairy plants and a steel mill.

Successful production at Maramarua comes from a favourable mining environment and well-equipped infrastructure.

About the role

This is a part time opportunity supporting the wider Health, Safety and Training team by coordinating medicals, managing medical records and Employee Health Management Plans at the mine site. Annual reviews are conducted in alignment with safety management plans and principal hazard focus.

Your duties will include coordinating medical bookings for pre-employment and return to work and you’ll maintain regular contact with ACC to ensure successful return to work, providing guidance on suitable duties plans.

This role needs a proactive approach and the confidence to identify improvements, not only in your area of expertise but also within the wider health, safety and training framework. A thorough understanding of occupational health monitoring requirements is key.

  • Occupational Health Nursing background
  • Formal qualification in occupational health and safety
  • High attention to detail
  • Experience in an industrial environment
  • Excellent time management
