A leading national refrigeration and HVAC business is seeking a dynamic safety Manager to drive engagement and performance across national operations.

About the role

To be successful in this role you will be highly engaging and experienced safety professional with proven ability to juggle operational requirements, strategic priorities and client relationships. You will partner with all levels of the business to influence and drive safety culture.

Reporting to HR, you will work closely with the NZ SLT and regional branch managers. You will be required to operate at all levels, completing the hands-on, day to day work as well as partnering with the managers to lead and drive best practice.

The position is based in Auckland with national coverage across 10 sites. On average there will be a requirement to travel 3-4 days per month.

It is essential that you have a strong understanding of HSWA 2015 legislation, as well as the proven ability to positively challenge, engage and influence at all levels within the organisation. Experience with a similar industry would be highly beneficial.

Duties will include:

• Provide day to day safety leadership, coaching and direction to all levels of the business.

• Facilitate the development and implementation of HSE improvement activities

• Ensure that regulatory compliance is in place across the business

• Take a hands-on approach to the awareness of critical risks, incident reporting and investigations.

• Provide accurate and details monthly reports for senior management

• Share Health and Safety best practice – both internally and across the client base

• Responsible for monitoring hazards and supporting branch leaders to effectively manage these

• Maintain ongoing audit process

• If required, identify and deliver relevant EHS training.

Skills and experience to include:

• Proven health and safety management experience, preferably within a relatable industry

• Recognised tertiary qualification (Post Grad Diploma in OHS or NEBOSH etc.)

• Excellent knowledge of the NZ legislative environment including HSWA and industry guidelines and standards

• Track record in incident investigation and root cause analysis

• High level engagement/communication skills, able to coach, influence and drive change

• Happy to operate in both a hands-on advisory capacity and strategic capacity

• Driver’s licence is essential as travel would be required across NZ
