Our Co-operative

Te Mātāpuna toa takitini

Fonterra’s strength is in the collective.

We are a Co-operative created and owned by Aotearoa New Zealand dairy farmers. Our rich history is built on farming families working together to share the natural goodness of our dairy with the world.

Collaboration, innovation, and passion was the cornerstone of our creation and something we continue to value today through our commitment to care for the land, our animals, and every drop of milk. Our milk creates goodness through nutritious food with safe, quality ingredients that are loved here in New Zealand and around the world.

The opportunity

Located in the beautiful South Canterbury region, our Clandeboye site is one of Fonterra’s largest sites, processing up to 13 million litres of milk every day during peak season. It is located close to the sea, mountains, lakes and ski fields.

We have an exciting opportunity with plenty of variety and challenge for an experienced Health and Safety Manager to be responsible for the continuous improvement of health and safety across our Clandeboye and Studholme sites. This role will provide you with growth and opportunity to progress your health and safety career and make tangible, rewarding impacts to the safety of work.

You will directly report to the National H&S Manager, Southern/ Supply Chain and will have autonomy to make this role your own and bring in new ideas. With 2 direct reports, you will work towards the uplift of your direct team capability, and guide and coach the sites on best practice Health and Safety. In addition, you will be part of the wider South Island and national Operations Safety team, therefore having the ability to grow strong relationships and gain support across the region.

You will be a trusted advisor, providing hands-on leadership and coaching to the site leadership teams, supporting continuous improvement, and bringing transformational change in the operations’ overall Health and Safety approach. Your day-to-day will include building effective relationships, sharing best practices, coaching, and mentoring to ensure implementation of a consistent approach, and ensuring compliance requirements are met.

What you’ll bring and develop

You will not only have strong technical health and safety knowledge, but will also know how to coach, guide and influence staff across best possible health and safety practices. Ideally coming from a manufacturing background, and with exposure to process safety.

You will need to be confident with presenting to large groups of people and ideally have had some people management or coaching experience under your belt. A passionate relationship-builder, your stakeholder relationship skills will be second to none, and your natural resilience and ability to manage expectations proactively will see you go far in this role.

To make an impact in this role you will have:
