Hazardous Substances Storage – New Regulations
A major change to the storage of Hazardous Substances is about to affect a wide number of workplaces. The new Hazardous Substance Regulations 2017 requires PCBUs to have Location Compliance Certificates (LCC) from a Compliance Certifier, to hold certain Class 6 or 8 substances from June 2019 - a few months away.
The Health and Safety at Work (Hazardous Substances) Regulations 2017 seeks to address the chronic diseases arising from a poor understanding and the improper handling of highly Hazardous Substances contribute to workplace ill-health and increased mortality. The Regulations have been in place since 1st December 2017, compliance starts 1 June 2019 and will be enforced by WorkSafe NZ Inspectors come December 2019.
Certifiers Neil Dobbs (TST000102) and Andrew Saunders (TST100213) have discovered that the new regulations have proved to be a surprise for some PCBUs and are pleased to offer a presentation to inform Northland NZISM branch members and others on requirements under the new regulations.
