The current environment is a chance to examine our approach to health hazards and consider how we change our assessment methods for these in the future. Health hazards need to be tackled in a different manner to physical safety hazards. We are delighted to have Steffan Cavill-Fowler join us to share his views on the difference between these two types of risks in relation to the current COVID-19 pandemic.
Steffan has been involved in health and safety, risk and emergency management for over 20 years. He has been a medic on operational tours for New Zealand Defence Force, Emergency Manager for the Red Cross and part of business continuity and emergency response for ESR during the Swine Flu in 2009. Steffan was also a Health Protection Officer on the West Coast responding to Pike River, Canterbury Earthquakes assessing toxic agents in a public health setting, and disease outbreak investigations. Steffan is now the Environmental Safety and Health Manager for Lockheed Martin New Zealand. He has been working on the COVID-19 response for staff who provided essential support to NZDF, Police and Fire and Emergency New Zealand.
