Join Chris Peace as he discusses a major fire that led to the demise of a business and very nearly cost workers their lives with a view to understanding the impact of foresight bias (" we're too smart for that to happen here!")

Presenter Bio:

Chris Peace started his OSH career in the UK where he worked in a regulatory role, enforcing health and safety legislation. When he immigrated to New Zealand he moved into risk management and worked in various roles before joining the Natural Gas Corporation as Corporate Risk Manager and ultimately moving on to establish Risk Management Ltd, an evidence-based risk management consultancy.

More recently, Chris has been sharing his wealth of information through teaching. He has lectured at Massey University (Auckland) and is currently at Victoria University (Wellington), teaching papers on management and assessment of risk in the Master's programme.

Chris has an MSc in Risk Management and Safety Technology. For his PhD he wrote a research paper on "The effectiveness of risk assessments". He is a Certified Fellow of NZISM, a Chartered Fellow of IOSH, and firm believer that effective risk management drives organisational improvement and is an integral responsibility for all managers.
