This presentation will explore some of the design influences on health and safety, with particular reference to the first prosecution of an upstream duty holder under HSWA, and provide some background on how the upstream duties in HSWA are intended to reduce risk to people. Reference will also be made to a number of overseas case studies.
The presenter will be Joe Bain (PhD, CPEng), the current Chair of the New Zealand Society for Safety Engineering. Joe is a Senior Safety & Compliance Engineer at Motovated Design in Christchurch, and regularly acts as an expert witness on HSWA cases.
