Visit the Justice and Emergency Precinct

Join the Emerging Safety Leaders network for a visit to Christchurch’s Justice and Emergency Precinct, which houses:

• NZ Police,
• Department of Corrections,
• Fire and Emergency New Zealand,
• St. John,
• the Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Management, and
• Canterbury and Christchurch City Council Civil Defence and Emergency Management.

We’ll hear from Sarah Cornall, Community Resilience Coordinator (Civil Defence), and Kurt Scoringe, Senior Health & Safety Advisor (CCC) who will talk to us about:

1. The function of the Emergency Operations Centre.
2. How overlapping duties are managed between emergency service providers in natural disasters (Police/USAR/LandSAR/FENZ etc.) when teams are dispatched to disaster areas.
3. How teams are kept safe on the ground in unpredictable environments whilst assisting those who need help.
4. Preparedness for natural disasters in our workplaces and at home.

This will be a great event with many insights into what happens when things really hit the fan in natural disasters. You will be able to learn from those who’ve been there about the key things we can do to prepare our workplaces and communities.

For those keen to continue the conversation after the visit, there will be a 'drink on the house' nearby.

Eligibility

Max. 20 spaces. This event is for ESL members who are at NZISM Practitioner level or below (eg. students, cadets, HSRs, and those in junior/intermediate H&S roles). If you are graded at NZISM Professional level or above, we ask that you refrain from registering for this event.
