Using MORT to design a management system and investigate events

The Management Oversight and Risk Tree (MORT) is an analytical procedure for determining causes and contributing factors. MORT was originally developed in the 1970s for use in the US nuclear power industry. It is a powerful tool that is not widely used.

In this webinar Victoria University of Wellington lecturer, Dr Chris Peace, will introduce the MORT chart and describe how it can be used to design a technical management system, as well as investigate event..

Bio

Chris Peace started his OSH career in the UK where he worked in a regulatory role, enforcing health and safety legislation. After immigrating to New Zealand he moved into risk management and worked in various roles before joining the Natural Gas Corporation as Corporate Risk Manager and ultimately moving on to establish Risk Management Ltd, an evidence-based risk management consultancy. More recently, Chris has been sharing his wealth of information through teaching. He has lectured at Massey University (Auckland) and is currently at Victoria University (Wellington), teaching papers on management and assessment of risk in the Master's programme.

Chris has an MSc in Risk Management and Safety Technology. For his PhD he wrote a research paper on "The effectiveness of risk assessments". He is a Certified Fellow of NZISM, a Chartered Fellow of IOSH, and firm believer that effective risk management drives organisational improvement and is an integral responsibility for all managers.
