Information

Auckland Branch AGM will occur at the end of this meeting.

WorkSafe NZ has estimated the burden of harm from work-related ill-health and injury. According to their figures, cancers and respiratory diseases from airborne substances make up at least 31% of work-related harm becoming one of WorkSafe’s NZ priority areas. Late last year, WorkSafe NZ held an interactive ‘Carcinogens and Airborne Risks’ roadshow, in different locations around New Zealand to engage, educate and promote good practices.

Building on available WorkSafe resources occupational hygienist, Lucre Pfefferman, will cover the basics around carcinogens and airborne risks including the process of identifying, assessing, and managing them as health risks.

As part of the hierarchy of controls discussion, Peter van Yzendoorn will offer a hands-on demonstration on systems that can be used in the collision repair industry to reduce airborne hazards.

Wrapping up, there will be a valuable information provided on respiratory protective equipment RPE and fit testing, with a summary of how RPE fit testing has evolved in NZ in the past three years.
