Margaret is a co founder of the Women in Safety NZ Group, started in 2010, and strongly believes in the encouragement, support and empowerment of women working in the health and safety profession. Margaret has 20 years experience in health and safety group management, advisory, and regulatory roles in New Zealand and has a passion for coaching and mentoring others.
Margaret is a Chartered Fellow of IOSH, Certified Fellow of NZISM and a HASANZ Registered Health and Safety Professional. Margaret is Principal Consultant/Managing Director of van Schaik Health and Safety Solutions, a boutique H&S consultancy based in Wellington.

Claire is the National EHSQ Manager at Iplex Pipelines (Fletcher Building Group Business) and a member of the Senior Leadership Team based in Manawatū. She has cross-industry experience with a strong background in Environment, Health, Safety and Quality and is passionate about fostering supportive and inclusive environments for women across all industries, particularly within health and safety.
Claire’s career journey began on the tools, which has provided a practical and grounded perspective. She understands first-hand the challenges women can face in trade and industrial environments and is a strong advocate for inclusive, high-performing safety cultures where people feel confident to speak up. She is currently serving as Regional Lead for WISE in Manawatū, and is dedicated to connecting and supporting women at every stage of their health and safety careers.

Elise is a health and safety professional with an engineering background and over 15 years of experience working alongside businesses in high risk industries such as agriculture, construction, forestry, and manufacturing. Her career includes senior operational roles, consulting leadership, and time as a Senior Inspector at WorkSafe Victoria, giving her a well rounded perspective on what good safety looks like in practice. Elise is currently Manager, Health and Safety Consulting at Findex and is a member of NZISM, Engineering New Zealand, and Te Rōpū Marutau o Aotearoa.
Elise cares deeply about building capability in people, not just systems. She is passionate about collaboration, practical risk management, and creating environments where people can speak up, learn, and lead. Through WISE, she is especially committed to supporting and developing the next generation of health and safety professionals and helping women in the profession grow in confidence, connection, and influence.

Kate Sutcliffe has been working in the health and safety field for over 17 years. She started out as a Health and Safety Inspector, before moving into the areas of auditing, consulting / coaching and training.
Kate is now a self-employed Health and Safety Specialist and Auditor, helping a number of companies make health and safety part of their everyday business. She is also part of the Avid Plus Ltd group of health and safety professionals. Kate is pleased to be part of a national group with the focus of promoting and supporting the profession.

Miriska is a highly motivated, passionate, and experienced Health and Safety professional. She holds a master’s degree in occupational hygiene, is a member of several national and international professional bodies and is HASANZ registered.
“Working today for a healthier tomorrow” is what drives her to not only do a great job, but to also enjoy her profession as a hobby. She is actively involved in New Zealand Health and Safety initiatives and serves on various Governance Groups where she truly aims to make a difference. Goals such as eliminating or mitigating occupational health risks or increasing the workforce capacity and capability in New Zealand, is what motivates her.
Miriska is passionate about creating a safe and healthy work environment for all, but especially for when her two little girls (currently 2 and 4) enter the workforce (one day). Miriska is currently National Programme Lead - Hazardous Substances at Te Whatu Ora.

Pam is a registered Occupational Therapist with a long term interest in Management and Strategy. She believes in growing and empowering women to reach their potential and sees collaboration as a vehicle to achieve this.
Pam is based in Auckland and has represented OTNZ on the HASANZ Governance Group for the last six years.

Pia is a senior health and safety professional with extensive experience shaping national health and safety strategy, governance and risk frameworks across complex organisations. Pia has driven the design of national management systems, led policy and assurance development, and provided governance insights to executive leaders across the private and public sector. She has held multiple national leadership roles, advising executives on due-diligence duties, critical risk, and system maturity.
A HASANZ registered health and safety professional, Pia is active in WISE and community volunteering, championing people-centred governance with a particular focus on supporting women within the profession.

Stacey is a general health and safety practitioner who has come through the GHSL internship pathway. Working in the government sector for the past 5 years, Stacey is a Health & Safety Business Partner working in healthcare and is in the process of completing her Postgraduate Diploma in Workplace Health and Safety. Passionate about driving human-centred innovation, Stacey believes in embodying the change that you want to see. Engagement is fundamental and embedded in our foundational principles.
Stacey is excited to learn from her colleagues within WISE and contribute to creating a space that empowers women in our ethos based profession.

Vanessa is an experienced Safety, Health, and Wellbeing Leader with recognised success across various industries in Maritime, Telecommunications, Construction, Health and has recently joined the Transport and Logistics sector. Vanessa recognises the importance of enhancing the health and wellbeing of workers to achieve better safety outcomes and more effective worker engagement and participation. She does this by empowering the workers' voice, applying her positive influence in leadership, and placing significant focus on organisational culture, visible leadership, and effective working relationships. Vanessa holds a Bachelor of Health Science in Psychology, Diplomas in Workplace H&S and Business Management, a NEBOSH IGC and was awarded the 2023 Safeguard Practitioner of the Year.
