We are grateful to Mike Cosman, Dr Mary Obele and Jon Harper-Slade for their expertise and
input into this submission, which is closely based on and supports their respective submissions.
We do not agree with WorkSafe’s proposal to downgrade the guidance from an ACOP to GPG for
this important topic. The burden of harm from asbestos remains extremely high and downgrading
the status of this guidance will not help. This also appears to run counter to the Government’s
proposals to make greater use of ACOPs.
It would be helpful if WorkSafe could identify technical changes there are between the current
ACOP and the draft BPG. Given the short consultation period it is a lot of work to read and
compare two very lengthy documents.
