The aim of this policy is to acknowledge that NZISM recognises that New Zealand has a multicultural heritage and is committed to the spirit of partnership, participation and protection embodied by Te Tiriti o Waitangi (The Treaty of Waitangi).
Partnership: working together with Te Ropu Marutau o Aotearoa (Māori Health and Safety Association) as a key partner and stakeholder to NZISM.
Protection: actively protecting Māori knowledge, interests, values, and other tāonga. We do this through acknowledging that respecting identity, language, and values are important aspects of a culturally aware practitioner/professional. NZISM commits to knowing, respecting and valuing where members are, where they come from, and further developing what they bring with them to our organisation.
Participation: Working with our partners to grow engagement with Māori across the health and safety profession. Creating leadership opportunities for Māori, from Emerging Safety Leaders through to Governance

Upon expiration of the 12-month period, if a member has not renewed their membership, they will forfeit any previous grading and will be required to join NZISM as an affiliate and reapply for accreditation.
