This senior role offers the opportunity to shape group-wide sustainability strategy, strengthen environmental outcomes and uplift quality systems across multiple business units operating nationally.

Our client is a respected, New Zealand-owned organisation with a diverse portfolio in essential services and trades. They are seeking an experienced Sustainability & Quality Manager to join their Group HSEQ team.

About the role

In this senior position, you’ll lead environmental and sustainability initiatives, strengthen ESG maturity and support the ongoing development of group-wide quality frameworks. Reporting to the General Manager HSEQ, you’ll work closely with senior leaders, HSEQ specialists and operational teams to embed sustainable and resilient practices across the business.

Key focus areas include:

  • Leading the development and implementation of sustainability strategy and action plans
  • Driving environmental compliance, carbon reduction, waste minimisation and resource efficiency
  • Supporting ISO certifications (including ISO14001, ISO9001 and ISO45001)
  • Leading group sustainability reporting and enhancing future reporting maturity
  • Coaching and influencing leaders across multiple business units
  • Supporting quality system improvements and broader HSEQ initiatives
  • Providing guidance to an HSEQ Coordinator who reports into this role

About You

You’ll bring strong environmental and sustainability expertise, alongside the confidence to work across varied operational environments and engage effectively with senior leaders and frontline teams.

You will ideally have:

  • A Degree in Environmental Science or Environmental Management
  • Lead Auditor certification in ISO9001, ISO14001 and/or ISO45001
  • Proven experience in sustainability, environmental management or ESG
  • Experience working with the Toitū process
  • Strong understanding of carbon accounting and emissions reporting
  • Excellent communication and coaching skills
  • A background in health and safety (desirable)
  • Experience in utilities, infrastructure or trades environments (advantageous)
  • Able to travel when required
