HSEQ Assurance Lead (Projects) - All of NZ
At ElectroNet Contracting, our projects take us across New Zealand – and so will this role.
Working alongside project teams, clients, contractors, and operational leaders, you will be a visible presence on site, providing practical HSEQ assurance and helping ensure our work is delivered safely, sustainably and to the highest standard. If you enjoy building relationships, influencing positive outcomes and being where the work happens, we would like to hear from you.
About the role
As our Project HSEQ Assurance Lead, you will play a key role in supporting project delivery teams across New Zealand. This is a hands-on role where you will regularly spend time on site working with crews, contractors and project leaders to verify critical controls, undertake audits and investigations, and provide practical advice and support that drives continuous improvement across health, safety, environmental and quality performance.
Reporting to the Health & Safety Manager, you will provide independent assurance throughout the project lifecycle, helping ensure work is properly planned, risks are effectively managed, investigating near misses and incidents, alongside of meeting client, legislative and ElectroNet requirements.
What you will be doing
- This is a two-year fixed term role.
- Lead field-based HSEQ assurance activities across project sites.
- Conduct audits, inspections, and site assessments to verify compliance and effectiveness of critical controls.
- Support and coach project teams, supervisors, and contractors to strengthen HSEQ performance.
- Lead or support incident investigations and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Analyse HSEQ performance data and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Facilitate contractor audits and performance reviews.
- Work closely with project managers and operational leaders to improve safety, quality, and environmental outcomes.
- Support compliance with company standards, client requirements, and legislative obligations.
- Develop various reports for the business and clients.
About you
You are a practical, credible HSEQ professional who can build trust in the field while providing the challenge and assurance needed to improve performance.
You will bring:
- Health & Safety, Environment, and Quality Management experience and skills, with preferably at least 3-5 years' experience in a Health, Safety, Environment and Quality role within construction, utilities, infrastructure, engineering, contracting or another high-risk operational environment
- Risk Management techniques
- Experience leading or supporting audits, assurance activities, and incident investigations
- Strong knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and associated regulations
- Experience working with operational teams and contractors
- Strong communication, coaching and influencing skills
- Excellent analytical and report-writing capability
- The ability to work independently while maintaining strong relationships across the business
- A current full New Zealand Driver Licence
Ideally, you will also have experience within electricity, utilities, infrastructure, or project delivery environments, along with exposure to ISO management systems, contractor management, and formal investigation methodologies.
Travel requirements
This is a highly mobile role, and you will regularly travel to project sites across New Zealand, working directly with crews, contractors, and project teams. Christchurch is the preferred base location; however, candidates located in another major New Zealand travel hub will also be considered. Regular overnight travel should be expected, no less than being away from your home base every second week.
