The opportunity

This is a pivotal leadership role where you will shape, lead and elevate health and safety performance across a complex, high-risk industrial operation.

Operating within a Major Hazard Facility environment, you will bring strategic direction, strong governance and visible leadership, to ensure safety is embedded into every aspect of the business.

This is an opportunity to influence at the highest levels; while also ensuring systems, culture and operational practices align to deliver the required safe and sustainable outcomes.

About the role

Reporting to the General Manager – People & Culture, you will lead the end-to-end health and safety function, including strategy, systems, compliance and team leadership.

You will work closely with the Executive team to translate business objectives into practical, actionable safety plans, ensuring continuous Improvement and strong alignment across multiple operations.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and execute the organisation-wide health and safety strategy
  • Ensure Safety Management Systems are robust, compliant, and fit for purpose
  • Provide expert advice to Executives and senior leaders
  • Oversee risk management frameworks within a Major Hazard Facility context
  • Drive continuous improvement through audits, reporting and performance insights
  • Lead incident investigations and manage regulatory engagement (e.g. WorkSafe)
  • Oversee ACC Accredited Employer Programme (AEP) requirements
  • Strengthen contractor management and safety systems
  • Build capability, coach leaders and develop a high-performing safety team
  • Foster strong worker engagement and a proactive safety culture

About you

You are a credible and influential safety leader with experience operating in complex, high-risk environments. You combine strategic thinking with operational understanding and are confident engaging at Executive and Board level.

You bring strong judgement, resilience and the ability to navigate ambiguity, complexity and competing priorities, while maintaining a clear focus on outcomes.

You will bring:

  • Relevant Tertiary level qualification
  • Significant experience in senior health and safety roles
  • Experience in industrial, manufacturing, or high-risk environments
  • Strong knowledge of HSWA, ACC AEP and regulatory frameworks
  • Proven ability to lead safety strategy and culture change
  • Experience with incident investigations and regulatory engagement
  • Strong leadership, coaching and stakeholder engagement capability
  • Excellent communication, reporting and influencing skills
