Following rapid growth through strategic acquisitions, we're implementing a comprehensive Health & Safety Culture Maturity Programme to establish systematic H&S frameworks across our network.

The opportunity

We're seeking an experienced, HASANZ-registered H&S professional to support the delivery of our 6-month maturity improvement programme as an independent contractor.

Position details

Duration: 6 months (potential for extension based on performance)

Hours: 2-3 days per week (16-24 hours)

Location: Auckland or Canterbury based with some travel to clinics

Start: Immediate upon agreement of terms

What you'll support

Delivery On Phase 1 (Months 1-3) - Critical Risk Foundation:

  • Systematic risk assessments across integrated clinic locations
  • Standardised controls for critical healthcare risks (workplace violence, manual handling, hazardous substances, clinical emergencies, infection control, psychosocial hazards)
  • Consolidated risk register with consistent methodology
  • Enhanced incident response framework with explicit H&S integration

Phase 2 (Months 4-6) - System Implementation:

  • H&S policies and procedures standardised across all locations 
  • Training and competency framework with role-specific requirements 
  • H&S performance dashboard for executive and board reporting HSR appointment and consultation framework implementation 

Essential requirements 

  • HASANZ registration and NZISM Professional accreditation 
  • Minimum 5 years' H&S advisory experience in senior roles 
  • Primary healthcare or healthcare sector experience preferred 
  • Proven track record in multi-site H&S system development 
  • Strong knowledge of HSWA 2015 and regulatory compliance requirements 
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and change management skills 

Desirable requirements 

  • Experience with H&S culture maturity assessments and improvement programmes
  • Understanding of clinical governance and patient safety integration 
  • Project management experience 
  • Knowledge of ACC and workplace injury management
