Health & Safety Advisor, Central Auckland

Petrol in your veins and safety in your DNA? We've got a seat for you.

We're looking for a Health & Safety Advisor to join our support office team. You will work alongside the Group Health & Safety Manager to implement health and safety initiatives across the Group, advise managers and H&S Reps on managing operational risks across our sites, and help drive a safe, compliant, and safety-conscious workplace culture.

About us

At Giltrap Group, we're more than just a business – we're a family-owned New Zealand company with a passion for cars and a commitment to our people. Our shared vision is to be a great New Zealand company driven by the love of cars. We excel in customer service and build enduring partnerships, by valuing each other, working together, and going the extra mile every time.

About the role

In this role, you work closely with the Group H&S Manager to:

  • Implement safety and environment initiatives across the Group alongside managers and H&S Reps
  • Provide practical advice to ensure workplace risks, including psychosocial risks, are appropriately managed
  • Coach employees and managers on what "good looks like" in health and safety
  • Build the capability of workplace H&S Reps through ongoing guidance, coaching, and targeted training
  • Undertake safety and environment audits in line with organisational and legislative requirements
  • Support incident investigations, Root Cause Analysis, and continuous improvement
  • Drive continuous improvement of health and safety systems, processes, and SOPs
  • Contribute to the development of Group-wide health and safety frameworks, policies, and processes

About you

Our ideal candidate is someone who thrives on initiative – you spot opportunities, take ownership, and make things happen. You can switch seamlessly between strategic thinking at the support office and practical problem-solving out on site. You should also have:

  • Tertiary qualification in health and safety, environmental management, or a related field
  • At least 2–3 years' experience in a health and safety advisory or coordination role, with exposure to policy development, frameworks, and supporting H&S initiatives in a multi-site environment
  • Experience in safety audits, incident investigations, and risk assessments
  • The ability to prioritise effectively based on risk and business need
  • Strong relationship-building skills across all levels – from H&S Reps and employees through to General Managers and SLT
  • A proactive, hands-on approach balanced with the ability to think and work strategically
