Purpose of the role

To lead and enable health and safety excellence across the organisation by maintaining a strong safety culture, administering effective systems and frameworks, leveraging digital tools and data-driven insights and empowering leaders and teams to take shared ownership of safety outcomes.

This role is the core operator and administrator of our digital health and safety systems and processes. You will manage the platforms, data and tools that support safety compliance across our manufacturing and site installation operations. This role is responsible for ensuring our systems are accurate, up to date and effectively supporting our safety culture. You will have a strong working knowledge of health and safety legislation as relevant to the construction industry, and provide advice and guidance to the business to ensure compliance with contractor and project requirements.

Core tasks

  • Demonstrate leadership in alignment with Wight Aluminium Employee Experience commitments, Leadership Habits and Values.
  • Maintain a high standard of customer satisfaction and experience (CX) in alignment with Wight Aluminium vision - to the best to work with.
  • Manage the digital transformation of the Health and Safety System. Own and manage the digital H&S tools, drive uptake and timely execution of tasks and responsibilities by team members across the business.
  • Achieve and maintain external H&S certifications and credentials as required for licence to operate on main contractor sites.
  • Lead the continuous improvement, development, implementation and review of health and safety strategies, policies, procedures and action plans. Advise on risk management and best practice.
  • Managing health and safety system assessments/audits.
  • Manage and oversee health and safety with subcontractors – from engagement, prequalification assessment and inductions, to auditing subcontractor compliance with health and safety management processes.
  • Lead a strong H&S culture, champion H&S across all facets of the business and provide advice and support to managers.

This position could be based in Hamilton or Whanganui.
