Group Health & Safety Manager - Auckland / Canterbury

We are looking for a passionate and experienced Group Health & Safety Manager to lead our nationwide health and safety function and drive continuous improvement across a high-risk, dynamic environment. This role can be based in either Christchurch or Auckland, with regular national travel.
About the role
This is a hands-on leadership position where your influence will be felt from boardroom to boots-on-the-ground. Reporting to the Executive Team, you’ll take ownership of leading and implementing our Group H&S strategy, embedding a strong safety culture, overseeing compliance, managing our H&S system and providing best-practice guidance across multiple sites.
- Execute and continuously evolve our group-wide H&S strategy and frameworks
- Monitor compliance with HSWA
- Lead and mentor a team of H&S advisors
- Provide expert, trusted advice and guidance to staff and leadership on H&S matters
- Lead investigations into critical incidents using frameworks like ICAM and ensure effective root-cause remediation
- Conduct risk assessments and manage business-wide risk registers
- Monitor, analyse, and report on safety performance metrics to inform strategic decisions
- Design and deliver training, SOPs, policies and reports
- Maintain and enhance our health and safety management system
- Drive business-wide safety culture transformation, embedding ownership and accountability at all levels
- Actively lead and provide support to the Board Health &Safety committee
- Board reporting
About you
- NEBOSH, Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, or equivalent preferred
- Proven experience in a senior health and safety role in high-risk industries (waste, logistics, manufacturing, construction, or similar), ideally working across multiple sites
- Strong understanding of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, risk management, legislative compliance and best practice
- Demonstrated experience in risk management and H&S frameworks
- Confident communicator with experience influencing senior leaders through to frontline teams
- Proactive, self-managing, and solutions-focused approach
- Comfortable with H&S systems, IT savvy and data-driven reporting
