NZISM, ESL and GHSL: Building a Career in Health and Safety


NZISM, Emerging Safety Leaders (ESL) and the Government Health and Safety Lead (GHSL) are delighted to present a panel discussion about careers in health and safety.


NZISM Chair, Robyn Bennett; Wellington Branch Manager, Nicola Knobel and ESL Lead, Luke McCallum will share their insights into how they came to health and safety as a career, their insights on the profession, and tips for early career practitioners.

The discussion will be facilitated by Jeff Sissons, NZISM CEO and followed by networking and light refreshments.


Come along and meet current and past GHSL interns and some key NZISM leaders.

All NZISM, ESL and GHSL members are welcome.


Bios

Robyn Bennett
As the current chairperson of the New Zealand Institute for Safety Management (NZISM) Board, Robyn is deeply committed to elevating the health and safety profession across Aotearoa New Zealand. and is an Expert Witness for auditing, approved by WorkSafe. Robyn is excited to contribute to building a strong foundation for safety practice across the motu and supporting the continued development of professional capacity and capability.

Nicole Knobel
Nicola is the Head of Safety, Risk and Assurance at Whānau Āwhina Plunket and a specialist in organisational risk, psychological health and safety, and governance. She holds a Master of Laws focused on health and safety and employment law, which shapes her evidence informed and people centred approach to risk culture and leadership and has a long-standing interest in developing emerging talent. Nicola's work is known for combining strategic clarity with practical application, and for advocating for inclusive, neuro informed approaches to safety and wellbeing at work.

Luke McCallum
Luke McCallum is a Senior Consultant in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) at EY, where he works with clients to address complex health and safety challenges. His experience spans the labour hire industry, complex government organisations, and now consulting at EY, where his work focuses on critical risk assessments, process improvement, and stakeholder engagement to foster a strong safety culture. He is passionate about education and continuous improvement, both professionally and personally, as key drivers for advancing health and safety practices
