Congratulations to Sarah Clark who was elected the NZISM Manawatu Branch Manager at our AGM on 14 May 2019. Brent Dais did not seek re-election and we thank him for his sterling 2-plus years at the helm.
Here is Sarah's full bio:
I feel very privileged and excited to be stepping into the Branch Manager role and hope to continue to build on the efforts of Brent and the amazing branch committee with all they have achieved to date.
With that in mind I would like to briefly introduce myself. I have been working in health and safety for a few years now but still feel as if there is so much to learn and I guess that’s why I love what I do and the Industry we are all part of. It is such an exciting time, with new thinking and ways of working all within a dynamic and changing landscape.
I currently work at Massey University as the Health and Safety Programme Manager, this role is largely developing and improving the H&S Management Standards and systems (like our critical risk framework).Prior to this, I was an Inspector with WorkSafe NZ and MBIE. My first H&S role was working for Fonterra as an H&S Advisor.
The bulk of my working life however, has been working in science and research in the Manawatu with a stint in the manufacturing and viticulture space where I worked in the wine industry.
So will be no surprise that I like to learn new things and get in a have a go.
Outside of work – I am a parent to a growing teen and have a dog - both keep me humble and balanced. I love anything outdoors and can be found most weekends out exploring many of the trails around the area and dreaming of being fit enough to complete an off road Ultra.
I’m also, interested in permaculture and tiny homes, cooking (and eating), live theatre and spending time with friends and family.
I’m looking forward to seeing you at our upcoming events - we have some fun ones planned so please do join us. We aim to create a inclusive space to network, support and grow as people and H&S champions.
Thank you for joining the Women in Safety Excellence (WISE) network.
We hold various online and face-to-face events throughout the year and if one occurs near you, we would love to meet you in person.
LinkedIn - Please make sure you join our LinkedIn group to stay connected and on top of our planned webinars and events. We encourage you to post anything in the WISE group page that you think other network members would find useful or inspiring. Please don't be shy. The more we reach out, the more we connect with each other, and the more we can help each other on our journeys.
We might send you the occasional email but our web page on the NZISM website is always the best place to go for an overview of what's coming up in the WISE calendar.
Best wishes,
Margaret van Schaik
