CEO's Update 24/02/21

By NZISM Secretary

24/02/2021

Kia ora koutou members and supporters, Hopefully, you have all had a chance to submit your vote on the election of a new Governance Board member, Kristen Thompson. Voting closes on 17th March and I encourage you to participate in this process if you haven’t already. This year marks the end of the first 2-year term for the Governance Board, so we will be undertaking further elections later in the year to reappoint Board members who re-stand and fill any vacancies that arise. We will take the lessons learned through this experience into the next election process.

At NZISM we are no different from any other workplace, we do on occasion make mistakes, but we are committed to a practice of continuous improvement, empowering each other to learn, grow and develop. I want to take this opportunity to acknowledge the approach and support of the Governance Board, the Senior Leadership Team, and those members who have provided constructive feedback. With their help we have been able to rectify the process and continue to move forward.

I am excited about the year ahead for NZISM. We recently held a business planning session with the Senior Leadership Team. Although we had to move to an online session to achieve this due to the change in alert levels around the country, we had an incredibly productive day. We have identified exciting new projects and initiatives to support both the strategic plan and to deliver on issues members raised in the 2020-member survey. We will share more information on these as they are formally approved through the new project approval process we have implemented. The member survey helps us set priorities and plan for the upcoming year, ensuring we focus on what's important to our members.

We have five key elements in our strategic plan:

  • Demonstrating leadership
  • Known as trusted and influential
  • Delivering an exceptional member experience
  • Ensuring organisational sustainability
  • Developing professional capability

This year will again see projects at a national level focused on activating each of these elements, while the branches continue to focus on delivering local networking and relevant professional development opportunities. Keep an eye on the events calendar to see what is coming up in your local area, and stay informed about national events and activities through this newsletter.

Ngā mihi,

Selena Armstrong
