The NZISM team has been working hard to prepare for our National AGM next week. If you are a member, we hope to see you there.

Wed 18 Sept, 3pm

Sofitel Hotel, 11 Bolton Street, Wellington Central

At the AGM members will be asked to make a number of important decisions for the future of NZISM including on:

  1. the direction of our new constitution and governance structure,
  2. eligibility for President and Board, and
  3. membership fees.

Please log-in to find supporting documentation and to register. We would love to see you there, in-person or online. If you cannot make it, you are welcome to submit a proxy vote.

Members have just received two additional papers for the AGM. The first is our Annual Report.

It’s more compelling than your average annual report because it contains a summary of all of the great work done by our branches and committees as well as the work delivered by NZISM staff. I think it’s well worth a read. I’m also profoundly grateful to the dozens of NZISM volunteers who work to provide you with an interesting and rewarding member experience.

The second is a paper setting out our proposal to increase fees to $320 for general memberships and $160 for students, from 1 April next year. A possible increase has been well-signalled and was supported by members in last year’s survey with more than two-thirds in favour.

For context, annual membership fees have only been raised twice in the last 10 years. Good financial management has enabled us to improve our member experience year-on-year without increasing fees but we are now at a point where this is no longer possible. To remain a dynamic organisation able to respond to members’ needs and play its part in shaping New Zealand health and safety, greater funding is needed.

Inflation has increased almost 25% since the last fee increase in 2019 and many of our costs such as airfares, venues, food and accommodation have risen by more than that. The proposed increase will enable us to continue to deliver and improve the support and services we offer.

We hope to see you at the AGM. NZISM is a member-led organisation and your views will help us shape our future direction.

Ngā mihi,

Jeff Sissons
