Update from the NZISM CPD Committee

The CPD committee was formed out of a request from the NZISM National Executive Committee to implement an increased focus on continuing professional development (CPD) for members, as was highlighted in a member survey carried out by Christopher Peace, NZISM Certified Fellow member. The survey report, dated 12 September 2016, identified the need for CPD to be promoted and delivered as a product to all NZISM Members and other interested professional groups.

Ravi Kolluru our Operations Manager called for volunteers to be on the committee and myself Robert Eaton, Carlie Yukich From Taranaki Branch and Robyn Bennett from Otago Branch put forward our names to be considered. A call for a Chair was raised and in discussion with all parties I was selected as the Chair for the Committee. The terms of reference were compiled and issued November 2016 and the committee accepted these terms as both a guideline and a scope of work to move ahead.

There was a clear cross over identified between Mentoring and CPD activities and it was therefore logical that the National Mentoring Manager Phil also joined the committee. However, as the Mentoring programme has increased in terms of the activities undertaken and the commitment required by Phil, she is now focusing on mentoring and the CPD committee continues in their role.

The CPD committee has been well supported both by NZISM National officers and the NEC committee and we as a committee are thankful for this support.

The committee has been busy and we are pleased to have facilitated several national webinars both through NZISM sponsor SHE software and Magpie Media and the committee thanks both organisations for their continued support.

Art of Work: Safety Differently with Daniel Hummerdal and Marc McLaren visited venues in Christchurch, Dunedin, Wellington, New Plymouth and Auckland and ran for a week in July 2017.

The Current Master Class ISO 45001 presented by Chris Peace will visit all 13 NZISM Branch locations, Northland, Auckland (2 events), Waikato, Taranaki, Nelson, Wellington, Bay of Plenty, Rotorua, Manawatu, Hawkes Bay, Canterbury, (2 events), Southland and Otago. This roadshow will run from Late July to Late August with an additional event for the Canterbury Branch in September 2018.

We have already begun discussions to bring Todd Conklin to New Zealand for the 2019 roadshow which will be held in July.Tickets will go on sale next year, you will have to be quick to secure your spot at these events which will be held at the main centres around New Zealand and a selection of the regional centres. We always advertise to our members before we open up tickets to the public, so you will get the opportunity to see Todd before anyone else, just be sure you book early.

As a committee we will produce one major roadshow every year, which we heavily discount for our members, as well as a monthly webinar programme (excluding December and January) which is free to NZISM members. We will also be looking to create partnerships within our training provider network to offer our members the very best deals on CPD in the market, as well as seeking further opportunities to create discounts by managing group bookings of training on behalf of our members. So, watch this space, we have an exciting programme ahead with more benefits coming and more opportunity to continually develop your knowledge in health and safety.

On behalf of the CPD Committee, thank you for your participation in our CPD programme.
