Leadership update

Kia ora koutou members and supporters of NZISM. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Michelle Carter who has been the Branch Manager at Southland for several years now. Under Michelle’s leadership, the Southland Branch held two very successful trade shows. The trade shows enabled Southland to showcase the health and safety expertise in the region and provided businesses with the opportunity to promote their products and services. Delivering these types of successful events takes a lot of hard work and dedication and I’d like to personally acknowledge Michelle’s contribution.

Southland Branch

Regretfully, with no other member willing to take on the role of Branch Manager, the Senior Leadership Team will be holding a meeting on 5th July to vote on suspending the Southland Branch. Members of the Southland Branch can object to the suspension by submitting their objection in writing to me at ceo@nzism.org before the SLT meeting. They are then able to attend and have their objection heard at the meeting before the SLT votes.

With the increase in online CPD and events being delivered to all of our members, the Southland branch members can be confident they will continue to have access to NZISM's growing list of online learning opportunities.

WISE Committee

I would also like to thank Emily Steele for her work on the WISE NZ Committee. Emily was a founding committee member of WISE and she has been a valuable contributor. We would like to open up the opportunity to join the WISE NZ Committee to another NZISM member. We would specifically like to hear from our emerging safety leaders. Having a diverse group of women on our committee will ensure that we are hearing from all of those in the profession and it is vital we also represent those starting their career in safety. If you are early in your career and looking for opportunities to build strong networks, support other women in safety, and learn as you grow then send me an email at ceo@nzism.org - we would love to welcome you onto the WISE Committee. We meet online every other month to develop opportunities to promote the equity and advancement of women in the safety profession.
