At AUT the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Department is designed for education and influence to raise capability. In this role, you will provide skilful advice and will act as an internal consultant to the university's professional and academic staff.

Some of the key duties include:

* Building strong relationships with leaders and advising, coaching and influencing them to enable them to fulfil their duties and responsibilities for health and safety

* Providing expertise in incident investigation and opportunities for improvement

* Educating and growing a positive Health and Safety culture including providing training

* Investigation and interpretation of complex information to make a pragmatic recommendation for decisive action

This is not only a technically skilled role, it is a collaborative role where you will work very closely with staff across the university. A friendly, positive, engaging and open approach is crucial for success.

We are looking for a candidate who has:

* A Graduate Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health or similar and ideally holds a post graduate diploma

* Graded membership with a professional Health and Safety organisation

* At least 5 years specialist Health and Safety experience

* Balanced knowledge; comprehends health and wellbeing

* A professional and sophisticated approach and the strong ability to influence and persuade

* The ability to drive culture change and introduce new ways of doing things

* A good understanding of the new Health and Safety legislation and the ability to provide that information in a logical, clear and understandable way for different audiences

* Enthusiasm, judgement and intellectual rigour to underpin advice
