This position reports to the Risk Manager and is an integral part of a small Risk Team that sits within the Council's Strategy Team, based in the Municipal Building.

Are you passionate about the safety and wellbeing of others? Do you view the world through a safety lens, and can you apply robust solutions? You'll be involved in the administration and monitoring of health, safety and wellbeing initiatives, processes and systems across Council. You will have experience in the provision of quality well-reasoned operational, technical and strategic advice and be able to balance compliance with a pragmatic hands-on approach.

You will be an experienced Health, Safety and Wellbeing Practitioner with a Level 6 Diploma (or equivalent qualification) in a Health, Safety and Wellbeing discipline and ideally holding a grade of Technician level or above through the New Zealand Institute of Safety Management (NZISM).

An understanding of training needs assessment methods, training principles for small groups and confidence with training delivery would be beneficial.

The role will provide health, safety and wellbeing operational, technical and strategic support including maintaining management systems, completion of audits and assessments to ensure that legislative compliance is achieved, completion of investigations, report writing, identifying opportunities for improvement and the development and delivery of training.

The role will engage with various stakeholders across Council including Infrastructure, Property, Venues, Regulatory Services and External Contractors to develop, implement and promote health, safety and wellbeing strategies, policies and procedures.

You will be expected to be out and about engaging with stakeholders, and this is where your relationship building and communication skills will be the point of difference in the continuous development of safety management and ensuring everyone understands Health & Safety expectations.
