Senior Adviser Health and Safety

About the role

Help shape the Department’s strategic approach to improving health and safety through the development of policy, frameworks, processes and resources within our Prison Industries function area.

Prison Industries provides the people in our care skills to support their reintegration into society through working in on-site industries such as farming, woodworking, engineering and construction.

As the subject matter expert, you will support the Principal Advisor Strategy and Policy and the National Manager Strategy and Systems to shape systematic improvement initiatives, with the primary improvements focussed in Prison Industries.

As Senior Health and Safety Systems Adviser, you will:

  • Lead the health and safety relationship and input with our Prison Industries function
  • Develop and improve Health and Safety Management System operational policies and processes
  • Shape the development of evidenced-based Health and Safety initiatives
  • Lead the provision and development of policy advice on specific issues
  • Where possible, ensure health and safety requirements are aligned and consistent across our Prison Industries.
  • This is a role with huge scope to guide strategic change in an organisation with unique health and safety challenges. Corrections have a strong focus on ensuring the health and safety of our 9000+ staff and those in our care.

Skills & Experience

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience as a health and safety practitioner and the provision of health and safety advice
  • Proven success in the development of health and safety management systems
  • Knowledge of evidence-based policy and process development
  • The ability to solve complex problems with creative and practical solutions
  • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills
  • Significant experience establishing successful working relationships with a diverse group of people

The salary range for this role is $91,953 to $129,816. Appointment will be based on skills and experience relevant to the role.
