We are looking for a highly experienced, Health, Safety and Wellbeing Principal Advisor to lead our health, safety and wellbeing programme and accelerate our HS&W maturity.

The opportunity

The Principal Advisor Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HS&W) will work with all levels of the business and explore HS&W opportunities. The role partners with senior leaders and the EPA Board to set the direction for Health, Safety and Wellbeing, and will deliver a comprehensive suite of initiatives, hazard and risk management, governance reporting and audits.

This role is pivotal in leading the response to keep staff safe and well during the current pandemic and any other emergencies, while providing advice to Senior Management. The Principal Advisor ensures EPA people working in the field are safe and well while executing our regulatory responsibilities for Hazardous Substances, the Exclusive Economic Zone, Resource Management and during public engagement activities.

About you

We’re looking for someone who has a flexible working style, fantastic organisational skills, and is excellent at building and maintaining relationships.

Other skills and qualifications include:

Formal qualification in a health & safety discipline (or working towards one) and Professional Membership Registration including an active professional development plan.

Experience working at a governance level, advising senior leadership and board.

Strong coaching and mentoring experience

Practical experience delivering HSW programmes and initiatives in a government or multi-disciplinary organisation.

Proven experience developing and delivering HSW management plan for a regulatory agency or related environment.

Experience assessing complex health & safety issues, considering options, risk, benefits and mitigation strategies and making informed decisions.

Experience and proven track record of developing and delivery HSW Strategies and supporting programmes of work.

Experience with the SafePlus programme and use of robust action plans aimed at supporting continuous improvement, health, safety and wellbeing maturity and success.

Strong problem solving skills including the ability to think laterally and communicate effectively.

A proven ability to effectively handle competing priorities and tight timeframes with sound judgement, professionalism and integrity.
