Policy - Senior Health and Safety Strategy and Policy- 12 month fixed term

The Department of Corrections has an exciting opportunity for the right person to join us to be part of work that will truly make a difference to our people and keeping every one of them safe, every day. We are looking for a strong and agile policy practitioner who can turn their hand to Health and Safety work.

The Senior Health and Safety Adviser (Strategy and Policy) leads the Department’s development of policy, processes and resources that guide engagement, work practices and event reviews; and helps to shape health, safety and wellbeing improvement initiatives.

The Department has identified the risks that have a credible potential to really harm our people. We have established a programme of work focussed on the systematic analysis of these critical risks. This programme can help the Department understand how to focus its efforts and resources on the things that can make a difference to its people.

To be considered for this role you must have;

  • Policy experience – experience scoping and drafting operational policy right through to consulting across an organisation to inform the final output; OR
  • Guidance development – experience crafting documents for end users to apply and operate in accordance with
  • Analytical experience - continually examines and critically questions the work that is being done and how it contributes to the end goal of keeping our people safe
  • Plain English writing style – can communicate key messages clearly and concisely to ensure the intended audience understands and can apply information
  • Delivering within required timeframes - excellent time management and potentially project experience where they are familiar with time boxing effort and providing progress updates
  • Autonomous worker – can get on with a piece of work with limited guidance or an initial concept that requires scoping and independent research to inform what an end product might look like
  • Uses initiative – proactively seeks out information to answer questions and engages with key stakeholders within the organisation to support this information gathering.

Experience in a health and safety-related field, risk bowtie methodology, or business analysis is desirable, but not essential.
