Based in Rotorua Timberlands is an experienced forestry management company who act on behalf of the Kaingaroa Timberlands Partnership as the forest owner.

About the role

Reporting to the GM of OHS Partnering, the purpose of this position is to provide leadership and specialist support and management to Timberlands key stakeholders – driving improvements in OHS performance, through building robust relationships with staff and contractors, and ensuring risks are identified and controlled – implementing strategies with a continuous improvement mindset, throughout the forest estate.

Duties

• Strategic and Business Planning – implementation of OHS Strategic objectives

• OHS Business Partnering – work closely and proactively with operational teams and contractors

• Incident investigations – conduct robust investigations as a learning tool, ensuring accurate root cause/s are identified in order to mitigate

• Promote engagement and collaboration to proactively strive for continuous improvement

• Provide mentoring and training across the business – risk management

• Contribute to the wider team and respond/participate to provide specialist support and advice

Skills and experience

You will have the experience and personality to provide credibility on site and accurate advice, which will include industry trends and ideas around risk mitigation. You will be a great team player who is absolutely comfortable influencing, engaging and educating at all levels, including contractors to achieve best practice.

• Tertiary qualified – OHS Diploma or Risk Management qualification

• Excellent practical knowledge of relevant legislation

• Experience within the forestry industry or very similar is highly desirable

• Collaborative by nature, with a highly engaging manner

• Solid understanding of risk management including critical risk programs

• Confident and comfortable engaging out in the field as well as happily attending to the office/admin requirements i.e. trend analysis etc.

• We anticipate you will have already held a similar role within a high-risk environment
