The New Zealand Institute of Safety Management (NZISM) is New Zealand’s leading professional membership association for health and safety practitioners and professionals. With approximately 2,300 members across 14 branches throughout New Zealand, our purpose is to influence better health and safety outcomes at work.

In 2019 we created a new structure with a formal Governance Board for the first time. Due to the resignation of a current Director, we have a vacancy for a new Board member.

We are a growing organisation - in terms of both membership and influence - and our Board plays a crucial role in supporting our growth and helping to identify new revenue sources that enable us to provide better services to Members and the wider business community.

It is a voluntary role with a modest honorarium paid for attendance at Board meetings. These are held 4 times per year of which 3 are usually virtual.

The Board requires candidates from a diverse background with significant experience and knowledge in one or more of the following:

  • the development of cultural awareness programmes or cultural competencies,
  • financial management or fundraising especially in a not for profit or membership organisation, and
  • strategy design and development.

Suitable candidates will be selected by our Senior Leadership Team and put forward for election by a full Member vote.

We aim to lead the way for the health and safety profession in New Zealand and are looking for the right person to guide us on this journey.
