The New Zealand Institute of Safety Management (NZISM) is New Zealand’s leading professional membership association for health and safety practitioners and professionals. With approximately 2000 members across 14 branches throughout New Zealand, our purpose is to influence better health and safety outcomes at work.
In 2019 we created a new structure with a formal Governance Board for the first time. Our Rules currently require that directors apply for re-election at the end of their two year term and we also have a vacancy following the retirement of a director for personal reasons.
We are a growing organisation in both membership and influence and the role of our Board in supporting that growth and helping identify new revenue sources to enable us to provide better services to Members and the wider business community is crucial.
It is a voluntary role with a modest honorarium paid for attendance at Board meetings. These are held 4 times per year of which 3 are usually virtual.
The Board position requires candidates from a diverse background with significant experience and knowledge in one or more of the following:
- financial management or fundraising especially in a not for profit or membership organisation
- the development of cultural awareness programmes or cultural competencies
- strategy design and development
Suitable candidates will selected by our Senior Leadership Team and offered for election alongside our existing directors by a full Member vote.
We aim to lead the way for the health and safety profession in New Zealand and are looking for the right people to guide us on this journey.
