The New Zealand Institute of Safety Management (NZISM) is New Zealand’s leading professional membership association for health and safety practitioners and professionals. With approximately 2000 members across 14 branches throughout New Zealand, our purpose is to influence better health and safety outcomes at work. In 2019 we transitioned our Advisory Board to a formal Governance Board and with the success of this move, and the confidence in the organisation’s future direction one of our long-standing Board members of 5 years is stepping down because she believes the time is right to review the Boards composition and make way for new ideas and a fresh perspective.

We are looking to appoint one formal Board position as well as provide an emerging leader with the opportunity to gain governance experience via an intern appointment.

The formal Board role requires candidates to have significant experience and knowledge in:

- the development of cultural awareness programmes or cultural competencies

- strategy design and development

- financial management

Previous experience working with professional membership organisations would also be a valued capability.

Our emerging leader role would suit someone beginning their governance career, who would like to intern within a supportive and encouraging environment. Our members come from a diverse range of backgrounds and we wish to reflect this in our board composition.

NZISM has achieved significant growth in the past few years and with an increased focus on workplace health and safety across organisations in New Zealand this role provides the opportunity to work with some of the industries most respected, senior professionals to increase your health and safety knowledge and capability. We aim to lead the way for the health and safety profession in New Zealand and are looking for the right people to join us on this journey.
