Role Title: National Safety Director/ CEO

Role Purpose: Develop and execute the FISC strategy that will advance the FISC goal of “together towards zero” fatalities and serious injuries within the forest plantation.

FISC is seeking to appoint a new National Safety Director / CEO. Based in Wellington, the role reports directly to the Chair and leads a small team.

The purpose of the National Safety Director / CEO role is to improve health and safety standards within the forestry sector by delivering various initiatives and raising awareness of best health and safety practices and outcomes within the community. The National Safety Director / CEO role is responsible for the day-to-day operation of FISC as well as projects and programmes that FISC undertakes. The role will oversee budgets for all initiatives of FISC and will manage and allocate funding appropriately. The new National Safety Director / CEO will also maintain and develop strong relationships with various public and private sectors stakeholder groups, members and the Board providing the latter with governance reporting.

Experience & Qualifications:

• Strong experience in senior management roles with a focus on health and safety;

• Successful track record in general management or CEO roles;

• Exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills;

• Strong strategic and commercial acumen;

• Proven track record in roles with a large stakeholder management component;

• Experience in working closely with a Board of Directors or governance reporting;

• Experience in advocacy and lobbying;

• Sound project management experience;

• Outstanding communication skills and the ability to be comfortable in front of media;

• Previous experience in or understanding of the forestry sector is desirable;

• Experience in working for an industry body or a not-for-profit will be considered advantageous.

Relevant Tertiary Qualifications are necessary.
