We seek expressions of interest to volunteer membership to a newly created Mental Health First Aid Advisory group!

Contribute your passion for mental health, expertise, knowledge, and experience to this vital initiative and make a real difference in people's lives in Aotearoa, New Zealand.

Almost half of the people in Aotearoa, New Zealand, will experience mental distress or illness in their lifetime. Please help us ensure everyone can access the support they need by volunteering your time and knowledge. Hato Hone St John is committed to delivering a robust, culturally sensitive and best-practice mental health programme which is easily accessible and meets the needs of all our communities.

Join a diverse and enthusiastic team of up to 8 volunteers, working together to provide strategic guidance, expert insights, and innovative ideas. Together, we'll shape and enhance the development, implementation, and evaluation of the program.

Your time commitment is manageable and rewarding! Attend our Mental Health First Aid course free of charge. After which, we will spend one initial day together in person, immersing ourselves in the cause, and then participate in a 1-2 hour online hui every 4-6 weeks. The initial term of the group is 12 months, during which we will make a lasting impact.

Volunteer members ideally possess a combination of the following skills, experience and attributes:

Mental Health and Addiction subject matter expert, qualified in Mental Health.

Mental Health and Addiction - one member with lived experience and/or strong connections to the local community of mental health and addiction service users.

Māori - one member with strong connections to Māori communities.

Pasifika - one member with strong connections to Pasifika communities.

The remaining members will be appointed to reflect the following areas of interest:

A mix of urban and rural representatives, youth mental health, older person's mental health, disability, education, technology, product development and innovation.

Experience in creating content/training, programme development and evaluation.

Responsibilities as members of the advisory group are to actively engage in group meetings (whether in person or virtually), offering insights and providing recommendations whilst upholding confidentiality and fostering an inclusive, supportive environment.
