About the role:

A leading, national civil construction contractor is seeking a dynamic HSW Advisor to support culture change initiatives and safety performance on a major contract. You will require a can-do attitude and possess a genuine passion for HSW. Working in close partnership with operational managers, frontline teams, and contractors – you will build robust relationships throughout operations. An ability to coach, guide and influence is essential. This is a great opportunity for a forward thinking, dynamic safety professional, committed to achieving HSW excellence.

Reporting to the Quality and Performance Manager, you will work closely with the leadership team and Project Director.

Our client has embarked on an exciting and ambitious strategy to shift HSW mindset and performance, creating a line led safety culture. This is your chance to be part of a truly unique opportunity in the NZ civil construction industry.

It is essential that you have a strong understanding of HSW Legislation and familiarity with contemporary safety practices (safety II, BBS, DuPont etc). Prior experience with civil construction, road safety or rail is essential.

Duties will include:

• Attending site, audit and engage with operational staff

• Ability to coach and train a group of people (up to 125 people)

• Knowledge of Dupont methodology advantage, not essential

• Compile project reports, maintaining clients KPI’s

• Pragmatic, hands on approach

• Familiar with road safety, traffic management and/or rail (100 km/phr roads)

• Provide effective health and safety support to communicate and promote consistent cultures, values, languages, and management system tools

• Play an active role in the Injury Management Process, thereby working to ensure the employee’s wellbeing and quick return to work.

• Co-ordinate strong relationships with local representatives of Worksafe NZ and other relevant regulatory organisations

• Undertake audits and project reviews, aimed at ensuring that high standards of health and safety management system compliance is achieved and promoted

• Analyse and collate performance data resulting from those audits and project reviews, such that accurate regional reporting can be maintained

Skills and experience to include:

• Preferably 5-10 years safety experience preferably within roading, rail or civil construction. Other relatable high risk industry experience could be considered

• Recognised safety qualification

• Knowledge of DuPont methodology would be advantageous

• Excellent knowledge of NZ legislation

• Hands on, resilient and site orientated

• High level engagement/communication skills – able to coach, influence and drive change

• Current, full, and clean NZ driver’s licence is essential
