As you can imagine, the way we work is dependent on strong safety leadership; we work at heights, within confined spaces, handle hazardous substances and operate a range of plant and a large fleet of vehicles. We work remotely, not only in the Nelson/Tasman/Marlborough regions, but throughout New Zealand. We are a business of teams; builders, engineers, mechanics, industrial electricians, conservation rangers, gardeners, refuse and recycling operators, landscape designers, architects, landscape construction, arborists, waste water treatment operators, water service & water construction, and so much more. Our people and teams often get called out when others are asleep and are skilled and equipped to collaborate with Local Authorities and act as first responders for civil emergencies.

So this job is not for the faint hearted. It has everything from advising and coaching to actively participating in risk management, investigations, reviews and providing pragmatic solutions. It’s responsible for the delivery of the health and safety programme, which will see you work with senior management through to the valued frontline team. You will partner with operational leaders to support them in their health and safety responsibilities, ensure compliance with legislative and company procedures, champion and drive a strong safety culture. This role will have a degree of administrative support but ultimately you will pitch in and do what needs to be done.

Obviously, we are looking for someone who has a number of years’ experience as a health and safety practitioner, with a sound knowledge of the relevant legislation to be the technical “go-to” expert. You will also have a relevant qualification, proven leadership capability, an ability to work at a strategic and hands-on level and can engage and influence all people in a positive and pragmatic manner, and not be afraid to challenge status quo. You have to be up for the challenge as we evolve and develop maturity in our safety practices.
