About the company

With approx. 450 NZ based staff, the majority based in Auckland, our client is one of Australia and New Zealand’s largest, privately owned international freight forwarding companies, providing end-to-end services including pick up at origin, air and sea freight, customs clearance, warehousing and transportation of goods.

With a flexible and agile response, this organisation is proud of their ability to provide these services in-house, giving greater control and flexibility throughout the transportation and warehousing journey.

Fairly new in their journey due to the merger of two companies, the organisation has a strong base in Australia to build from and anticipate strong alignment of the health and safety management system, including the implementation of a new electronic system.

About the role

This an opportunity to really make your mark and to make a positive difference within this high-risk industry. Building robust systems and processes and ensuring great collaboration along the way, will gain buy-in throughout the organisation to ensure sustainable success.

Duties include:

• Implement and update the health and safety management system

• Review incidents and conduct appropriate investigations and accurate reporting of such

• Establish risk management and emergency management procedures

• Auditing/monitoring in a proactive manner

• Provide relevant and current advice / guidance at all levels

• Ensure compliance to legislation and company standards through engagement and education

Skills and experience

We anticipate the successful candidate will come from within the freight and logistics industry and will have held a health and safety role for a significant length of time working within a similar risk profile, with working knowledge of the NZ and/or Australian legislative framework.

• Relevant tertiary level qualification (minimum Dip OHS)

• Proven and successful experience within similar risk profile – freight and logistics

• Practical and working knowledge of legislative and industry requirements

• Preference is for those who have worked with Rapid Global system

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Strong ability to work at all levels, building robust relationships along the way

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

• Outcome focussed, roll your sleeves up, action orientated with great attention to detail
