The opportunity

An exciting opportunity has come about for a Health & Safety Manager at our Whareroa, Pahiatua and Longburn sites. Predominantly based at Whareroa, one of the largest sites in the Taranaki, this Major Hazard Facility offers the opportunity to progress in your health and safety career and make tangible, rewarding health and safety changes.

Working towards the uplift of our health and safety capability and guiding and coaching on best practice health and safety is a vital part of this role. A key focus of your role will be to support the pro-active management of risks, emergency response plans, and upskilling the business in health and safety. You will be a trusted Manager, providing hands-on leadership and coaching to the site leadership teams, supporting continuous improvement and bringing transformational change in the operations’ overall health and safety approach. Your day to day will include building effective relationships, sharing best practice, coaching and mentoring to ensure implementation of a consistent approach, and ensuring compliance requirements are met.

What you’ll bring and develop


You will not only have strong technical health and safety knowledge but will also know how to guide and influence staff across best possible health and safety practices. Ideally coming from a manufacturing background and with exposure to major hazard facilities or process safety. You will need to be confident with presenting to large groups of people and ideally have had some people management or coaching experience under your belt. A passionate relationship-builder, your stakeholder relationship skills will be second to none, and your natural resilience and ability to manage expectations proactively will see you go far in this role.


To make an impact in this role you will have:

  • Technical health and safety management expertise ideally in plant operations
  • Solid understanding of major hazard facilities or process safety
  • Ability to instil trust across a diverse workforce and establish meaningful relationships with stakeholders
  • Ideally hold a relevant health and safety certificate or diploma (NEBOSH or equivalent)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent time management and communication skills
