Our client requires an exceptional Health and Safety Practitioner, experienced in developing strategy through to boots on the ground implementation and mentoring.

The company and role

Our client supplies electricity to a number of customers – both residential and major industrial premises.

With a number of operational depots around the region and around 150 staff - the majority of staff are in the field, maintaining the lines and ensuring an excellent level of service to their customers - covering 4,500km of power lines, around 13,700 square km, with approx. 18,000 customers and 24,000 connection points.

Seeking someone with an exceptional communication skillset, a solid understanding and practical experience in safety management systems, from creating strategy through to implementation - you will be a subject matter expert with regards to legislation and best practice.

Your greatest strengths will not only be your legislative and best practice health and safety knowledge but also your personality with regard to collaboration and the ability to build robust relationships, you will also have an incredibly strong influencing, motivating and mentoring skillset.

There are numerous internal customers and external stakeholders and you will be able to demonstrate your excellent interpersonal and influential communication skillset and foster an environment of continuous improvement, where improvements are proactively identified, developed and realised.

Duties include

· Ensure full compliance through proactive management of all policies and procedures, as well as relevant legislation

· Lead the way through strategic review and implementation

· Foster a culture where employees are engaged and feel empowered

· Risk analysis and proactively working to ensure all risks, hazards, near misses and incidents are reported in a timely and effective manner

· Proactive auditing in an educational manner

· Carry out incident investigations, reporting to agreed quality and timeframes, including providing a support function for ICAM investigations

· Implement and embed corrective actions that result from both improvement opportunities and investigations

· Ensure competency assessments and audits are carried out in accordance with the business requirements

· Ensure management of subcontractors to ensure full compliance

· Develop programs to support all Health, Safety and Wellbeing matters for the region

· Foster a culture of engagement and empowerment for all employees

· Work promptly to resolve queries and any health and safety reports or concerns

Skills and experience include:

· Significant experience working within health and safety at a senior level

· Professional, confident and competent with previous OHS industry experience within construction/infrastructure

· Relevant tertiary qualification

· Qualified in investigation methodologies (ICAM and Bowtie)

· Proven experience and an enthusiasm for providing motivational leadership, coaching, mentoring and support at all levels

· Excellent written and verbal communication, including succinct report writing

· Proven ability to build and maintain strong collaborative working relationships

· Strong ability to foresee challenges, read situations and respond efficiently and effectively

· Tenacity in taking problems through to successful outcomes despite potential barriers

· Able to show initiative and demonstrate a level of senior professionalism
