Well established Whanganui based manufacturing business seeking an Advisor to advise, engage and support safety

About the role

Reporting into the Health and Safety Manager, this role is designed to prevent harm and incidents in this high-risk and unique company. Develop and review company policies, SOPs, training materials and documentation.

Your proactive and positive personality will drive an effective health and safety culture, encouraging worker participation and engagement. With a drive for safety at a senior level, this role is an opportunity to directly improve safety culture and development.

Duties

• Assist the HSM and senior leaders to manage critical risks

• Ensure the company meets legal requirements including the permit to work systems

• Complete and review risk assessments on plant, equipment and machinery

• Lead incident, accident and hazard prevention across the company

• Complete onsite investigations and audits

• Oversee contractor compliance

• Coordinate monthly health and safety committee meetings

• Develop and present health and safety reports to the Board and senior management

Skills and experience

Experience in manufacturing and knowledge of machine guarding standards is a must in this hand on, practical role. Familiarity with HSNO is an advantage as this company deals with a range of hazardous chemicals, unique to their business.

With support for safety at all levels of the business, this role will be key in supporting the continuous improvement of process, procedure and safety culture.

• Minimum level four certificate in OHS

• Background in manufacturing

• Experience with hazardous chemicals

• Training and assessment experience/qualification is an advantage

• Excellent communication skills

• Solid time management and organisational skills

• Excellent IT skills
