Opportunity for growth in this health, safety and wellbeing role...

As part of our Home Safe Team, you’ll work alongside our Health and Safety Manager to design and deliver health, safety and wellbeing initiatives. Building strong relationships with our managers you’ll support best practice solutions and work proactively to reduce risk to the organisation and our people.

You’ll have your work cut out in this busy role, and will need to juggle the coordination of activities such as investigations and assessments whilst providing advice on policies, solutions and education to stakeholders. With the wellness of our staff at the forefront of our minds, you’ll play an integral part in delivering wellbeing programmes as the face of the Homesafe Team. Ideally as you build your knowledge and understanding, you’ll identify new areas of focus for this role, meaning that the role develops as you do.

As a member of the Gisborne District Council team, you’ll enjoy seeing how your contribution makes a difference to our region. We were the proud winners of the 2019 LGNZ Excellence Awards, for our work to grow and promote the well-being of our community and people, and we offer a flexible and supportive environment with the opportunity to learn from the breadth of knowledge and experiences that we provide.

This role would be best suited to someone with at least 3 years’ experience in health and safety at coordinator level within a medium sized organisation, or an advisor level role in a small organisation. In addition to this experience you will need:

• A Health and Safety qualification and/or training to National Certificate level or equivalent;

• A robust understanding of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015;

• Strong ability to build relationships and build rapport;

• The ability to manage projects and negotiate successful outcomes;

• To be highly motivated, well organised and committed;

• An understanding of working with tangata whenua (or at the very least, a willingness to learn).
