Our client requires a Group Manager – Health Safety and Training - high risk industrial background to take the lead, with an exceptional and proactive can-do attitude.

The company

Our client is New Zealand’s largest mining operation, employing over 450 people. They require an exceptional Group Manager Health, Safety and Training (HST) to take the lead developing the strategy and overseeing the HST portfolio with oversight of the implementation throughout operations.

The role

Working to the GM of Health, Safety, Environment and Community you will support the best practice Health and Safety standards and compliance programmes across 7 sites.

You will provide oversight to the business on leading practice for health and safety leadership and champion mining practice.

This is an interesting role as a result of the variety and scope of practice and will collaborate with the OHS and Training Team and other departments to develop strategy, plan and implement the HST functions, in compliance with the company policy and in pursuit of a Zero Harm Culture.

Duties, skills and experience required:

· Create, review, improve and implement the HST portfolio as required, providing for a robust risk management and assessment process

· Mentor, encourage and ensure all key stakeholders have the necessary tools and information for safety success

· Maintain up to date regulatory knowledge relating to health and safety including legislation, national and international standards and codes of practice, integrating into the company corporate standards and systems

· Lead the suite of risk and change management standards

· Manage a programme of Health and Safety Audits

· Oversight of the investigation of serious incidents (ICAM trained)

· Health and Wellness – establishment of annual health planning, pre-employment to exit assessments and ongoing wellness programmes

You will have/be

· Outcome focussed and a natural problem solver

· Motivating, influential and engaging personality

· Practical by nature, with solid ability at leadership level

· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

· Hold relevant tertiary qualification (minimum Diploma level)

· Significant industrial/technical Health and Safety experience

· Excellent written and verbal communication skillset

· Auditing experience and qualification

· Solid understanding of legislation (Mining Regulations would be an advantage but not essential)
