A leading construction and infrastructure services organisation is seeking an innovative and experienced leader to drive performance

About the role

Are you ready for your latest EHS leadership challenge? In this newly created role, we are looking for someone who can deliver great outcomes for the business, setting the benchmark for safety performance, influencing the long term direction of the organisation.

Our client is a national civil construction business with over 1500 employees throughout NZ. As a trusted leader you will partner with area, regional and branch leaders to achieve the desired safety level of safety performance and culture. Collaboration and influencing skills are the key to your success. You will be required to develop, implement and maintain Safety Management Systems in accordance with Group policy, international standards and regulatory bodies.

Providing expert EHSQ leadership, direction and planning for the Northern Area. You will collaborate with operations to implement group wide strategy.

Reporting to the Area Manager – Northern, this role forms part of the senior leadership team and will involve working closely with the Southern EHSQ Manager.

Duties will include:

• Partner with operational and business leaders, positioning them for success

• Act as a coach and mentor for Area SLT, assisting them to achieve group EHS strategic and cultural plans

• Provide oversight of EHS team (northern and Fiji)

• Participate in major ICAM or factual investigations

• Regular reporting to the Northern leadership team

• Identify assess and monitor trends, addressing areas to action

• Lead and foster a line led safety culture

• Lead team, holding regular forums to maintain effective and positive engagement

• Build and develop effective, collaborative and productive relationships across the organisation

Skills and experience to include:

• Significant health and safety experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership function

• Recognised tertiary level safety qualification

• Proven experience of leading and building a high performing team

• High level engagement/communication skills – able to coach, influence and drive change

• Experience of working within a high hazard, ideally construction environment

• Current, full and clean driver’s licence is essential.
